Upgrade your PC hardware this Prime Day with these CPU, SSD and Motherboard deals

Amazon’s Prime Day is now live, and it brings a host of deals on products that you might have been looking to get for a while. Given the deep discounts on many products, the shopping event is also an excellent time to build yourself a brand-new gaming PC or even grab a prebuilt gaming PC without having to pick and choose parts individually.
However, as you might have figured out after a cursory glance, not all Prime Day deals offer the same level of bargains as some of the best ones, making it a tricky area to navigate at times, especially if you aren’t regularly checking prices for certain components.
The team at Game Rant comes to your rescue by offering our picks of what we feel are some of the best deals in the business for PC hardware purchases, for both, gaming and productivity when it comes to Prime Day 2023:
Intel Core i7-12700KF 12-Core, 20-Thread CPU
The Intel Core i7 12700KF is nearly 2 years old but still holds its own with most modern processors in terms of gaming performance due to its strong single-core performance, support for DDR5 memory, and Intel’s latest motherboard chipsets, making it a potent combination at the right price, packing 8 P-cores (Performance) along with 4 E-Cores (efficiency) placing it just below the more expensive Intel Core i5 13600KF in terms of single core and multicore performance.
Our Verdict: If you are looking for a decent all-round performer without pushing for more expensive 13th-generation CPUs, the 12700KF has you covered with a deep discount on Prime Day without costing an arm and a leg like some of its competitors. At $220 a pop, you can’t really argue with the outstanding value it brings to the table.
Intel Core i7-12700KF 12-Core, 20-Thread CPU
$220 $281 Save $61
The Intel Core i7-12700KF 12-Core, 20-Thread CPU is an excellent processor for your gaming and productivity needs. With 8 Performance and 4 efficiency cores, it leverages all 12 of its cores to allow for a variety of workloads, delivering stellar performance in its GPU-less design which allows it to be a cheaper alternative to its more expensive sibling, the Core i7 12700K
AMD Ryzen™ 9 7900X3D 12-Core, 24-Thread Desktop Processor
The AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D is still one of the best processors your can grab currently for gaming and productivity. The 12-core, 24-thread behemoth, which does get its fair share of criticism for being the middle child of a family that also includes the gaming-centric Ryzen 7 7800X3D and the creator-centric 16-core Ryzen 9 7950X3D is priced at a significant discount while touting its gaming prowess and efficiency as key takeaways if you snag a deal now at Amazon as part of the Prime Day offerings at just $459 a pop.
Our Verdict: While we have extensively covered the Ryzen 9 7900X3D as a CPU for gaming versus its more expensive, higher-end sibling in the past, the price difference did not make it an appealing choice in the past. That has changed considerably in the past few hours thanks to the current pricing for AMD’s mid-range X3D processor. This makes it an excellent recommendation to make for us based on its value-for-money factor alone. It is, after all, just $9 more than the MSRP of the smaller, but slightly more nimble 7800X3D processor, making it a no-brainer purchase on Prime Day.
The fact that it comes with a free copy of Starfield Premium Edition as part of AMD’s latest gaming offer simply makes it an even better deal than the price alone.
AMD Ryzen™ 9 7900X3D 12-Core, 24-Thread Desktop Processor
$459 $600 Save $141
The AMD Ryzen™ 9 7900X3D 12-Core, 24-Thread Desktop Processor is the 12-core version of its X3D refresh across 3 of the Ryzen 7000 series processors that see it stack 3D V-Cache on one of the two 6-core CCUs in a bid to repeat the success that was the 5800X3D on a resurgent Ryzen 7000 lineup
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core, 12-Thread CPU
The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core, 12-Thread CPU is a somewhat dated option to consider for many people, but given the price point it currently trades it, you could call it a no-brainer upgrade for most gamers on a budget. With plenty of AM4 motherboards in the market thanks to the longevity of the socket, as well as wide compatibility coupled with excellent single-core and multi-core performance for a hexacore processor, make the Ryzen 5 5600X an excellent bargain to be had at a price we have not seen on Amazon to date for the CPU.
Our Verdict: While the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core, 12-Thread CPU is not an appealing prospect for all AMD CPU enthusiasts, it is a great pickup for an entry-level CPU. It comes unlocked out of the box and still bundles a capable stock cooler to save you that extra spending that many of its unlocked peers tend to skip on altogether. It’s not the fastest CPU out there but given its target market, it doesn’t have to be. It just needs to hold its own, a task it handles with ease.
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU
$133 $309 Save $176
The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X is a midrange CPU, excellent for gaming setups. This is the fastest six-core processor from AMD and features 12 processing threads. AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-Core 16-Thread Processor
The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is the fastest AM4-based octa-core CPU you can buy. The 8-core CPU that still gives Intel’s high-end core-heavy processors a run for their money in most gaming benchmarks also happens to be the final upgrade you can get on AMD’s now-aging AM4 platform. It happens to be available at a deep discount on Amazon as part of the Prime Day sale, making it something to consider getting if you are due an upgrade but do not wish to change too many things in your current PC.
Our Verdict: While the fastest X3D-based octa-core AMD CPU crown is no longer up for grabs, the 5800X3D is still a potent gaming CPU no matter now you look at it in 2023. It also does have the unique position of being the ultimate upgrade for users not wanting to get rid of their trusty AM4 motherboard or DDR4 memory just yet due to budget limitations or if they are looking for a better bargain down the road to do a complete overhaul.
While the discount on the 5800X3D is not a massive one compared to some of its other peers, the CPU remains in heavy demand thanks to its unique value proposition and we still feel it is something to consider on Prime Day given the extra savings it carries currently.
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-Core 16-Thread Processor
$332 $449 Save $117
The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D launched just over a year ago and still holds its own against AMD’s and Intel’s best-in-class CPUs when it comes to gaming. That alone speaks volumes about the PC gaming heavyweight processor that has simply refused to die versus subsequent iterations of Intel CPUs.
MSI PRO Z790-A Wi-Fi Gaming Motherboard
The MSI Pro Z790-A Wi-Fi Gaming Motherboard offers a no-frills performer with plenty of expansion and a somewhat subtle design that still supports decent overclocking under the hood without costing an arm and a leg in the process. Thanks to the 13th generation motherboards also supporting the older 12th gen CPUs, it is a great motherboard to pair with the Intel Core i7 12700KF above.
Our Verdict: The MSI PRO Z790-A Wi-Fi Gaming Motherboard is already a capable motherboard and its Z790 chipset gives it a further edge versus some of the more budget options in the market. Thanks to the large discount it currently goes for thanks to the Amazon Prime Day sale, it is a no-brainer by any measure if you are looking for an Intel-centric build and do not want to splurge more than $200 on the motherboard.
MSI PRO Z790-A WiFi Gaming Motherboard
$190 $280 Save $90
The MSI PRO Z790-A Wi-Fi Gaming Motherboard is an excellent, well-rounded Z790 motherboard offering with plenty of connectivity in tow while supporting both Intel’s 12th and 13th generation processors with ease in addition to a decent 16+1+1 phase power delivery mechanism at a price that makes it comparable to Intel’s more budget B760 motherboards in the market

Samsung 990 PRO PCI-E 4.0 SSD 2TB
As storage prices continue crashing, they have enabled a new tier of deals altogether for many users who could previously not afford pricier, high-end storage options such as the Samsung 990 PRO PCI-E 4.0 SSD 2TB. With its Prime Day deal offering a whopping 2TB of storage for the fastest Samsung Pro series SSD currently available, this is a deal that outdoes even the heatsink version’s deal that we covered earlier, making it a deal you can’t afford to overlook if you want premium storage at entry level prices on Prime Day.
Our Verdict: The Samsung 990 Pro is fast and no longer carries the premium that it used to thanks to a mix of falling NAND flash prices and Amazon’s Prime Day deals, making it a steller bargain you should consider if you are on the high for high end storage this summer.
